Where Are We?

Chartham is only six kms from the city of Canterbury in the region of East Kent. Located in the South of England, Canterbury is about 90 kms to the east south east of London.

Canterbury Cathedral, Canterbury       Whitstable Harbour

Situated on the River Stour, Canterbury has:

• a population of around 50,000 people
• Canterbury Cathedral - a World Heritage site and official seat of the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Head of the Church of England and worldwide Anglican Communion
• two major universities - the University of Kent at Canterbury and Canterbury Christ Church University.

It is a pretty place with a range of architectural styles dating from the Middle Ages and with the ‘old world’ feel of a walled city. At its centre is the cathedral and a renown from the famous ‘Canterbury Tales’ by Geoffrey Chaucer. Having said that, Canterbury is also home to some very up-to-date shopping and other modern facilities!

Because of its culture and history, Canterbury is a popular tourist destination and so is a recognised place for people wishing to learn and improve their command of the English language. For students wishing to travel a bit further afield during their stay, the East Kent region has a number of attractive seaside towns such as Whitstable, Broadstairs and Deal and other historical places like Dover Castle. And London is easily accessible by train.
